Washington County Hospital Appeals To BZA

11/18/2005

Hagerstown, MD (November 18, 2005)—Washington County Hospital will seek modification of the special exception granted to it in 1991 by the Washington County Board of Zoning Appeals in a meeting on Monday,  November 21. The meeting will be held at the Circuit Court in Courtroom #1 at 7:00 pm. The court is located at 95 West Washington Street.

According to James P. Hamill, president and chief executive officer of the hospital, it is seeking permission to build a new hospital adjacent to the Robinwood Medical Center. “Our goal is to provide state-of-the-art healthcare for our community. We believe having the hospital at Robinwood is in the best interest of long-term healthcare planning. Having the new hospital at Robinwood will bring acute care and outpatient services together in one place to the benefit of our patients.”

The hospital is asking for modifications to allow lot line variances, so that the hospital can connect directly to the medical center. Also, it is seeking to modify the height of the building, as well as to allow ambulances and helicopters.

Hamill also said, “The hospital hopes for approval of our request by the Board of Zoning Appeals. Its consent will bring us a step closer to the completion of a regional medical center.”

Chartered in 1904 and opened in 1905, Washington County Hospital is accredited as an acute care facility by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. It includes not only inpatient and outpatient services but also the John R. Marsh Cancer Center, Total Rehab Care at Robinwood, and the Urgent Care Center at Robinwood.
