EMS: Assess and provide emergent
care to possible stroke victims and assisting with ALS transportation
to the emergency department.
Emergency Room Physicians: Complete in depth neurological examination
and determine if patient is appropriate for tPA ( a medication
that may reduce/reverse the effects of stroke)
Neurologists: Doctors that specialize in the diagnosis and disorders
of the brain
Primary Care Physician: This is your family doctor that cares
for your primary medical needs.
Stroke Care Specialist: provides education to patients and families
related to stroke and helps coordinate care while in the hospital
system
Nursing: Provides stroke related assessments and specialized care
24 hours a day
Rehab: Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists will help
you regain functional abilities such as swallowing, talking, walking,
and self-care activities.
Dietitian/ Diet Technician: provides nutrition assessment and
education to stroke patient and their families.
Pharmacists: Reviews Medication orders and makes recommendations
to your doctor.
Social Services: Offers services to your family including evaluation
of your needs, discharge and aftercare planning, information about
and referral to community support agencies, as well as individual
and family counseling.
Utilization Review: Provides the link between your insurance coverage
and your hospital stay.
Physiatrist: a doctor specializing in rehabilitation
and oversees medical care in the rehab unit.
