Total Rehab Care offers different types of therapies to address the full spectrum of physical challenges.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is the treatment of injury or disease by mechanical or physical means and may be prescribed after surgery or a traumatic injury or event. Our therapists work closely with patients and families to develop a personalized treatment plan to rebuild strength and coordination, and help patients return to activities they enjoy. Physical therapists help patients to improve motor skills, strength, endurance, balance, and independence.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy services are typically prescribed for you by a physician as part of your recovery from surgery or injury. This type of therapy is intended to help you return to activities of self-care, work, play, and independence.

Occupational therapists will work to improve self-care skills, cognitive skill, upper body strength, endurance, independence, personal safety, and to promote lifestyle management. Our occupational therapists work closely with patients and families to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy serves individuals in infancy and through the later stages in life, and  involves the diagnosis and treatment of the various disorders that affect a person’s speech, language, cognition, voice, and/or swallowing. If you or a loved one experiences difficulty in any one of these areas, your physician may prescribe speech therapy to facilitate either their development or recovery.

Therapists work closely with patients and families to develop a personalized treatment plan to facilitate recovery and help patients improve or regain speaking ability. Speech therapists work with the individual to improve comprehension and memory skills, problem solving, the ability to swallow, and the ability to speak clearly. They also help patients to improve or regain functional language, communication, cognition, and/or swallowing skills so as to be more successful in the home, classroom or work, and the community.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquabasics
This class for all ability levels offers strength and flexibility components, as well as low-impact, light cardio sets, for a well-rounded workout. Come enjoy some fun, educational fitness information too!

Arthritis Aquatics
This class is offered in a group setting with an instructor certified by the Arthritis Foundation. A slow pace and warm water are used to promote flexibility and mobility. This class does not include cardiovascular or strength training.

Assisted Aquatics
This time is set aside for aquatic participants who require some assistance from a care provider in the water, on deck, and/or in the locker rooms. Care providers may get in the water to assist as needed at no additional charge. Our aquatic equipment will be available, and a lifeguard will be on duty.

Maintenance Swim
Our maintenance swim times are offered for those who wish to exercise and relax in the warm pool independently. Lifeguards are on duty at all times, and equipment is available.

Prenatal/Postnatal Swim
Gentle exercise in a gravity-reduced environment can help maintain or improve strength and flexibility as well as relax tired bodies. An instructor leads the class, but the level depends on you.

Toddler Aquatic Recreational Program:
This time is for our Tiny Tots (18-36 months) & Toddlers (37 months - up to and including 4yrs who have not had formal swimming lessons).  This class provides group interaction, fun exercise, pre-swimming and safety skills.  Registration is for a 6-week session.

Total Joint Swim
This class is offered to those who have had a joint replacement or another corrective surgery. Instructors lead safe range-of-motion exercises primarily for the legs.

Call 301-714-4025 or 4029 for member rates and schedule.

Industrial Rehab

This service is offered through the Health@Work program. We offer a supportive, professional atmosphere, with licensed therapists who will work with you to diagnose, treat and care for an injury requiring therapy. And because it is all done in one location, it’s easy for you to continue therapy.

We offer preventative programs as well, including motion analysis, on-site exercise programs, training and education (including back classes and joint protection), and job demand analysis.

Our therapists are experienced, professional, and board certified. They will work with you to develop a program of rehabilitation that meets your needs while preparing you to return to work.

Because we also have an employee assistance program and occupational medicine program in the same location, we provide support should your employee have emotional difficulties caused by the injury, and a complete work capacity program for work hardening or work strengthening.

For information, please call 240-313-9910 or 877-628-9675 toll-free.

Massage Therapy

As one of the oldest healing arts, it is no surprise that more people are finding out how beneficial it is to add massage therapy to their healthcare regimen.  Studies show that upwards of 90 percent of disease is stress related. We all have pressure and anxiety in our lives, and while we cannot eliminate stress completely, it can be managed with massage.

Some of the benefits of massage:
- Increased circulation
- Increased immune system
- Increased energy level
- Decreased stress
- Decreased pain
- Decreased blood pressure in cases of hypertension
- Enhanced sleep quality

Many people think of massage as just a pampering treat, but it is very therapeutic and should be considered a consistent piece of your health and wellness plan. The benefits of massage increase with frequency and should be treated as an investment in your health.

Massage therapy is offered at TRC with a licensed massage therapist. For pricing and appointment information, call 301-714-4025.  Gift certificates are also available.

Pet Therapy

Pet therapy promotes increased socialization and sensory stimulation for non-responsive patients and can bring much enjoyment to the patients while providing companionship. Pet therapy is offered for inpatients during an evening or weekend program.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational therapy applies the use of recreational activities to increase or maintain physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning to assist patients in regaining an independent leisure lifestyle.

At Total Rehab Care, recreational therapy treatment is offered both on a one-to-one basis and in groups. We incorporate community outings into the treatment plans in order to give patients a chance to apply their functional skills within a community setting. The goal of recreational therapy is to encourage increased independence upon return to the home.

Village Green
The Village Green at Total Rehab Care is a special program created around gardening activities. During horticulture therapy sessions, patients have been able to increase their standing balance, social skills, and gross and fine motor coordination, as well as reminisce about their past experiences with gardening. Patients also learn how to adapt their gardening skills so they are able to return to this activity once they return home.
