Maryland NeuroRehab Foundation (MNRF) is a nonprofit organization specializing
in comprehensive neurorehabilitation for persons with acquired brain injury
such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, or tumor resection.
Our specialized brain injury program includes an emphasis on cognitive
intervention in addition to traditional therapies. The life-skills
program, focusing on daily living skills, is offered for multiple
neurologic diagnoses,
including brain-injured persons without cognitive needs.
The MNRF day treatment program is a team effort.
You, your family, and the rehabilitation staff work to help you achieve
your goals
and gradually
return to activities you enjoy.
Your care will be supervised by a group of specialists that includes
your physician, our medical director, a program manager who specializes
in neurorehabilitation,
and a clinical coordinator who specializes in neuropsychology. Rounding
out your care will be a variety of specialists, each experienced
in a different discipline.
- 2 million Americans suffer a TBI each year
- 5.3 million Americans are living today with a TBI related disability
Long term effects of TBI may include:
- Short-term and/or long-term memory loss
- Speech impairments
- Slowed ability to process information
- Spatial disorientation
- Muscle spasticity
- Balance problems
- Double vision, low vision, or blindness
- Trouble concentrating or paying attention for periods of time
Maryland NeuroRehab Foundation is an outpatient based neurorehabilitation
day treatment program. Activities take place in our Robinwood
Medical Center location. Our facility has a warm homelike setting, which includes
private treatment
rooms, a comfortable lounge, an activities of daily living apartment,
bright gyms and a heated pool.
Your program, goals, and estimated length of treatment will be reviewed
continuously. Before you complete the program, community resources
will be identified that may help you after you leave. Staff will
contact you
periodically after your discharge to see how you are doing. In keeping
with our efforts to continually improve the program, you and your caregiver
will be asked to complete a brief patient satisfaction survey. This
input is used to continually assess and adapt the program to better
meet client
needs.

planning and preparation are covered, and special care is given to
money management skills, such as creating a budget and balancing a
checkbook.
You will work with your team to learn access to community services and
use of public transportation, along with safety awareness. Compensatory
strategies for cognitive impairments (e.g., memory, attention) are covered
as well.
Daily skills such as dressing and grooming are addressed, and social
skills are reinforced through role-playing activities and community outings.
Arrangements for van transportation will be discussed when you meet with
members of the rehabilitation team on your first day, with transportation
available beginning your second day.
Your Rehab Team meets every two weeks to review your goals and progress.
Periodic Family Meetings are held with you and your family members, along
with your team of therapists. At these meetings your goals and progress
will be reviewed and you will have an opportunity to express any questions
or concerns. Family education is also provided to teach your caregiver
how to best assist you.
Gilbert Holniker, inspired by his wife Carol Lee’s
traumatic brain injury, founded the Maryland NeuroRehab Foundation. This
program is designed
to assist those recovering from acquired brain injury in their quest
to reach their greatest level of personal independence.
MNRF program hours are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Please be sure to share any questions or concerns about
your treatment plan, discharge plan, medical management or any other
issue with your program manager or other team members.
