Radiology simply refers to images of the human body, and radiologists are physicians who specialize in reading and interpreting these images.

Originally, radiological images were taken using radiation, like x-rays. Radiation is still used for some imaging, but radiologists now have a variety of high-technology tools available—some of which do not use radiation at all. These include computed tomography (CT or CAT scan), magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound. Modern techniques can produce both flat and three-dimensional images, giving incredibly detailed views of bones, organs, and tissues.
