Radiology simply refers to images of the human body, and radiologists are physicians who specialize in reading and interpreting these images. Originally, radiological images were taken using radiation, like x-rays. Radiation is still used for some imaging, but radiologists now have a variety of high-technology tools available—some of which do not use radiation at all. These include computed tomography (CT or CAT scan), magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound. Modern techniques can produce both flat and three-dimensional images, giving incredibly detailed views of bones, organs, and tissues. Washington County Health System leads our region in the use of advanced imaging technologies. From routine tests to complex diagnostic and treatment tools, our radiology professionals are dedicated to your needs. The Health System’s radiological services are offered on an outpatient basis through Diagnostic Imaging Services’ three locations, while our hospital-based radiology department handles inpatient needs in addition to outpatient imaging services.
