Family medicine is a medical specialty that requires three years of post doctoral residency training. Family medicine encompasses general and subspecialty fields in medicine, pediatrics, most types of surgery, gynecology, and psychiatry. We also deal with emergency medicine, geriatrics, and sports medicine. It is estimated that 95% of the medical problems arising within the community can be competently treated by the family physician.
