  Ethics Committee and Patient Advocate

Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee of Washington County Health System is an advisory body that assists patients, families, physicians, and staff who have concerns or questions about medical treatment and about the ethical behavior of the Health System. Examples would be business contracts, marketing, and billing practices.

The committee also helps families in times of difficult life and death decision-making. Such decisions are extremely difficult and should be considered in an honest, yet compassionate manner. Access to committee can be made through the Patient Advocate at 301-790-8262 or hospital switchboard at 301-790-8000.

The Patient Advocate

There is a Patient Advocate available to discuss any concerns, questions, or comments that may arise during your hospital stay, or after your return home. Most of the doctors who treat you at the hospital are not employed by the hospital, but are private physicians. When necessary, the Patient Advocate can act as a liaison between you and your doctors in order to help you understand all aspects of your medical care.

If you or your family have any concerns about any aspect of your care, you may contact the Advocate directly, or in her absence, request that your nurse contact either the Nurse Manager or the Patient Care Manager who is on duty. The Patient Advocate can be reached at 301-790-8262.
